ZONOPHONE 'CONCERT GRAND'

Zonophone

This very rare Zonophone is the cousin to the famous 1900 Zonophone Model A. It uses the same motor and is the only other Zonophone to have two beveled glass sides to reveal the motor in operation. (This is the earliest incarnation of the Concert Grand -- later examples had a single glass window.) The cabinet is essentially the same as the A, but in a taller form with a heavier base. However, while the Model A has a 7" turntable, this uses a 9" turntable which is so unwieldy for the size of the cabinet that the stop lever cannot reach the edge; it engages a special lip on the underside of the turntable. The huge 30" brass horn is too heavy for the small cabinet to counterbalance, so a patented upright support rod (unique to this model) was required.
